20 mm vs 22 mm Watch Straps: Lug Width and Quick-Release Fit

Oct 04, 2026 / By / in Buying Guides Product Tips

Black silicone watch strap with silver-tone buckle and two keeper loops on a teal mat

Choose a 20 mm watch strap for a 20 mm lug opening and a 22 mm strap for a 22 mm opening, then check the attachment separately. The number describes the width where the strap joins the watch, not the case diameter or your wrist size. A matching width is necessary, but it does not establish compatibility with every connector.

20 mm or 22 mm: which measurement decides?

For the silicone replacement strap covered here, both widths are available across 13 color-and-buckle options. Choose the width before the color. Buying the black version instead of the white version does not resolve a mismatch between the strap end and the watch lugs.

Check the strap specification for your exact watch model. If it is unavailable, measure the inside gap between the two lugs in millimeters, keeping the measurement across the opening rather than diagonally. A ruler can help, but an unclear reading is a reason to recheck, not to round up to the next offered size. The old strap's watch-end width can provide a second comparison; do not measure its narrower buckle end instead.

A case measurement such as 40 mm does not tell you whether this strap should be 20 mm or 22 mm. Case diameter, lug opening and wrist circumference answer different questions. If the watch uses an integrated connector or the opening does not clearly match either offered width, confirm the required part before ordering. Do not squeeze, cut or pack out a strap to make the wrong width fit.

Quick-release spring bars: check more than the width

This strap has quick-release spring bars with a small lever, a pin buckle, adjustment holes and two keeper loops. The lever retracts a spring-bar end for positioning. Its presence does not turn the strap into an adapter for every watch: the bar ends must also match and seat in the watch's lug holes.

Before removing the old strap, check how it attaches. A screw, fixed bar, sliding connector or proprietary clip needs its own replacement method. QuickFit and Quick Release are not interchangeable systems; a shared width label is not evidence that their connectors are the same. No specific watch-model compatibility list is provided for this silicone strap.

Keep the original hardware until the replacement has been checked. If the lug-hole or spring-bar dimensions are uncertain, ask a watch technician to inspect them. Do not treat a click, a centered appearance or the words quick release as sufficient confirmation on their own.

How to position this strap on a compatible watch

Once the width and spring-bar connection are confirmed, follow the watch's own replacement instructions. For this strap, the basic positioning sequence is:

  1. Work over a soft surface and keep the watch supported. Remove the old strap using the method intended for its hardware.
  2. Retract the replacement strap's spring bar with its lever, align the two ends with the lug holes and release it into position.
  3. Check that both ends are seated before fitting and checking the second section. Stop if the bar will not seat, binds or comes free.
  4. Fasten the pin buckle through an adjustment hole and pass the spare tail through the two keeper loops. Check the fit without overtightening.

Do not wear the watch with an uncertain attachment. Quick release describes the mechanism, not a pull-strength test or a guarantee against detachment. A technician can help when the watch's hardware or the fit is unclear.

What do the 86 mm and 123 mm lengths mean?

The short section is listed as 86 mm and the long section as 123 mm for the offered 20 mm and 22 mm straps. These are two section lengths, not two wrist sizes. Adding them gives a combined section length, not a usable wrist circumference: the fastened overlap, buckle position and watch case affect the wearing fit.

Compare the two sections with a strap that already fits you, and ask for the usable fastened range if you need a confirmed wrist fit. The current information does not specify that range. Selecting 22 mm instead of 20 mm changes the watch-end width; it is not a substitute for choosing a longer strap.

Choose the color and buckle after checking fit

The 13 options are White, Navy, Black, Red, Purple, Orange, Green, Wine Red, Pink, Gray, Gold, Black with black buckle, and Orange with black buckle. Each has a 20 mm and a 22 mm choice. Gold is the option name, not a statement of precious-metal content.

Only Black with black buckle and Orange with black buckle have black buckles. The other eleven options have silver-tone buckles. Check the complete option name and width together before checkout; choosing Black alone does not select the black-buckle version.

Each priced unit contains one complete strap, not two complete straps. The order minimum is two straps in total, and offered colors or widths can be mixed. For example, one White 20 mm strap and one Orange with black buckle 22 mm strap are two selected units; each still needs its own compatible watch. Material alone does not establish swimming suitability, skin tolerance or tested service life.

Frequently asked questions

Can a 22 mm watch strap replace a 20 mm strap?

Not when the watch has a 20 mm lug opening. Choose the matching width and verify the spring-bar connection; do not force a wider strap into the opening.

Can I choose strap width from the watch case diameter?

No. Case diameter and lug width are different measurements. Check the exact watch specification or measure the inside lug gap.

Are 86 mm and 123 mm wrist-circumference sizes?

No. They are the short and long section lengths. A usable wrist range is not specified, and adding the two lengths does not establish one.

Does quick release mean the strap fits every watch of the same width?

No. Width, connector type and spring-bar seating must match. QuickFit and Quick Release are different systems; no model-specific compatibility list is supplied for this strap.

Does one priced unit include two complete straps?

No. One unit is one complete strap with two sections, buckle and quick-release spring bars. The minimum order is two complete straps total, with mixed offered colors and widths allowed.

Which options have a black buckle?

Black with black buckle and Orange with black buckle. The other eleven options have silver-tone buckles, and both widths are offered for every option.
